Perhaps we are only seeing a portion of what Ms Deveny has stated but on the face of it, her comments reflect an appalling lack of insight into the difficulties faced by patients with time critical illnesses such as cancer that can’t access potentially life-saving medicines in a timely manner – time with clinicians and patient groups working at the coal-face, would be time well spent!
Rather than trying to defend the indefensible, I’d suggest the CHF focuses on positively contributing to the HTA Review implementation process, to ensure that all Australian patients in the future can be confident of timely access to key innovative therapeutics for life-threatening medical conditions – a new world that I have no doubt would be welcomed by Government, the Department of Health as well as the entire community.
