Novartis has announced its new leader for Australia and New Zealand, an American packing his bags in Hungary as he prepares to take on the role when the Richard Tew departs for Switzerland within the next few weeks.
Matt Zeller has been named as the Swiss pharmaceutical giant’s incoming ANZ Country President, making the transition from Tew to Zeller much simpler given Tew was set to carry on in his current role while at the same time assuming a new global role in Basel.
Zeller is currently the Country President of Novartis’ Europe Central Cluster and of Hungary and will assume the ANZ role on 1 December. He is currently living in Hungary with his family.
Zeller joined Novartis in 2014 as Director of Global Pharma Strategy in its Switzerland HQ, and has held leadership roles in the US including Head of the Cardiovascular National Hospital team, Vice President of Patient and Specialty Services, and COPD Franchise Head.
Prior to Novartis he was a strategy consultant with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in China and New Jersey focused on commercial biopharma, has worked for a non-profit in Argentina, was a neuroscience sales rep for Eli Lilly, and was a professional baseball player in the US.
Zeller holds a Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Duke University. He will relocate to Australia early next year with his wife and two children.
Richard Tew is in the process of moving his family to Basel to take on the role of Head, Customer and Market Activation within the International Commercial and Launch Strategy Division, effective 1 December.
