Great article Megan – you have nailed the drivers in my mind of the 2026 Australian Pharma industry and the increasingly disrupted and challenging environment we all face and especially in small to mid size biotech global pharma industry. We are already witnessing the impact in off shore global board rooms where Australia is rated a high risk pricing country akin to NZ for new innovative listings and the number being held back from any go forward in Australia is and will grow further. We need HTA reforms urgently, and will need courageous govt mindset especially to replace outdated cost effectiveness thresholds and the rules to calculating cost effectiveness (ICER, QaLYs etc) that catch up with international HTA moves in UK, Canada and elsewhere in 2025/2026. I do not believe Australia has dodged a bullet with MFN and GLOBAL and ENDURE policies at all listening to boardrooms I consult offshore – and we will increasingly see the impact of that within 2026 at the PBAC and new innovations entering our market level. Strong and effective leadership in our industry is our greatest need to achieve meaningful HTA reforms.
Great insights – thanks David.
